Hoop Driving
The hydraulic-powered hoop driving machine is undeniably the workhorse of today’s modern cooperage. These powerful machines carry out over 70 per cent of the work done in most cooperages.
Whether you are producing new barrels for the wine industry, or repairing and rejuvenating casks for whisky or rum, barrels are usually passed through the hoop driver at various stages of the process.
Traditionally the tightening of hoops by manual hammer and driver was the hardest work in the cooperage. Today Schoolhill Hydraulic Engineering produces three sizes of hoop driving machine to cater for cask hardening from garden tubs to large sherry butts.
“I would like to thank you for the outstanding quality of the Schoolhill hoop driver. Kelvin Cooperage has had this machine for 18 years and we have had nothing but great service from it. The machine has consistently proven itself to be the best cooper in the shop.” Edward McLaughlin, President, Kelvin Cooperage.
