Hoop Working

Schoolhill Hydraulic Engineering has a heavy duty punching machine for new hoop production. This machine is capable of punching two holes at two inches apart simultaneously. When the hoop is wrapped around the measuring jig and the joint overlapped, all four holes for the hoop are punched with a single stroke of the machine.

Measuring jigs are available to suit varying barrel sizes and are easily adjustable for different hoop diameters. The jig moves in and out to allow for alignment of different hoop widths, thus ensuring that holes are punched in the centre of the materials. Adjustments can also be made with regard to height and angle tilt to accommodate a range of different angles of splay.

Our riveting machines are now available with double head tooling to allow closure of both hoop rivets simultaneously. These heads are normally set at two inches apart, however this distance can be set to suit clients’ requirements. Hoops up to 2.5 inches (63mm) wide x 0.100 inches (2.5mm) thick can be processed in Schoolhill Hydraulic Engineering’s riveting machines.

Automatic rivet feeding has also recently been introduced.

Barrel working solutions offered by Schoolhill provide a number of benefits: –

  • Very accurate hoop sizing
  •  Increased production
  •  Reduced manual handling
  •  Reduced hammering and noise.

Our family of machines comprises of six individual units, suitable for various hoop working operations on both new hoops and repairs. The machines can be banked together to form a production line, depending on the operations required, or can be used on a single machine basis for riveting only.

The machines are set up with different tooling for each operation; these operations might include punching new hoops, measuring hoop diameters, punching out old rivets, flattening and riveting.

Expected Production: 1200 – 1500 hoops per day Machine Dimensions: 3.9m w x 1.3m d x 1.7m h Shipping Weight: 1600 Kgs Electric Motor: 5.5 Kw
